What it means in practice
When your employees use ordinary free ChatGPT, anything they put in (a draft contract, financial plans) can in principle become food for training the model. ChatGPT Enterprise is a private office inside OpenAI’s enormous building. OpenAI guarantees your data stays yours and is never used to improve their products.
Why companies need to know this
- Protecting company secrets. You can safely upload spreadsheets, internal documents and code without worrying about leaks.
- Administrative control. As the owner you can see who has access and grant or revoke licences in bulk.
- Performance without limits. The Enterprise version does not fall over at peak times and delivers answers roughly twice as fast even on the hardest tasks.
An example from practice
A mid-sized consultancy banned employees from using freely available AI tools over concerns about client data leaking. They then bought ChatGPT Enterprise licences. Consultants now safely upload anonymised client data and have the AI do the routine analysis, which lets them handle 30 percent more engagements while keeping to strict security policy. In our company AI workshops we explain the differences between licences and help owners pick a secure AI environment for their team.
